Hotel Deals for Waaagh!Fest

Feb-10-2016

We know there’s a large number of folks that come in form out of the St. Cloud area to attend this event. Kudos and a huge thanks to you! We’re also aware that a number of you decide to “curb you enthusiasm” in the later hours because of a long (and responsible) drive back to the Twin Cities, Duluth, Fargo, and even further. We’re hoping to help some of you in making the funner choice this year.

We’ve managed to secure a block of rooms at the Quality Inn in St. Cloudfor $119 a night (normally $149/night). All you need to do to secure this rate is to mention you’re part of the Waaagh!Fest group when registering. This offer is good until May 11th.

So what does that really get you? Well, the Quality Inn is two miles from the Waaagh!Fest event itself so it’s a short (and cheap) cab ride to the hotel. Not only that, the festivities carry on at one of two places: Old Chicago or Boulder Tap House. Old Chicago is connected to the hotel, and Boulder Tap House is 150′ across the parking lot from Old Chicago. That means access to 80+ taps and 60+ bottles of different beers available AFTER we’re done having our way with the Moose Lodge.

We’ll add the Quality Inn location and contact information to the Location page so it’s there for easy reference.

And if you’re still not sure, ask the Lords of War group for references toย  what the after event is like…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cheers!

Clarifications as We Get Closer to Game Day

May-29-2015

paul-huckThere’s been a few questions popping up as we close this last month before Waaagh!Fest! 5 so I thought I’d address the most common here because they mostly affect the list building component.

We chose to use the ITC format for most of our rules, especially when it comes to list building. Recently there has been a lot of talk swirling around the the surveys just completed and Reccuss’ online opinions of the results, which they use in making changes to the format. I’ll put this out there right away: THEY HAVE NOT MADE ANY CHANGES TO THE FAQ BASED ON THESE FINDINGS.

We’ve decided to not use any changes made 30 days prior to the event, just like the adoption of new codices released within that same time frame, and for all of the same reasons. Use the FAQ dated 2/2015.

That said, the new Imperial Knights codex raises the question of LoW, since ALL Knights are considered LoW now. We are choosing to allow the new codex as is but you are limited to a MAXIMUM of three Knights in ANY army list, no matter how you organize it. You shalt not useย  four. Five is right out!

The other question that has arose is how to use the “allowed, non-Warhammer40K Approved/legal LoW” list provided by ITC and linked to in the Roolz section. Use the list on our Rooolz page to determine if the LoW you wich to use is legal, then use the ITC linked chart to see what source you should be using for that particular model.

As usual, any other questions, please contact me at sukigod@bigshoota.com.

Randy

Rules and Format Set for Waaagh!Fest 2015

Mar-3-2015

bigmekSo, after many long debates, we’ve finally settled on the format for Waaagh!Fest 2015. We have decided to follow the conventions and list building rules as set forth by the ITC (Independent Tournament Circuit) which published the rules of the popular LVO/BAO tournaments.

But you’re a small, friendly, non-competitive/compeitive, gaming over beer and chips kinda tournament – why would you adopt the trappings of a large, hyper-competitive, WAACa style tournament?

Well, my friend, it’s a different world out there in the world of 7th Edition. As gamers, we are spoiled with the amount of variety we have, an endless fountain of rules, units, models, superheavies, and fortifications. As a tournament organizer, it’s a hellish nightmare of a million options, and no possible combination that will make ALL players happy, much less keeping on top of Games Workshops recent production schedule. 7th Edition Warhammer 40K makes 2nd Edition look like Candy Land compared to Risk. And, to be honest, us TO’s for Waaagh!Fest have many other jobs that don’t include working for a gaming company or hobby store so we don’t have umpteen hours to invest in play-testing everything that comes out and finding broken situations.

For that, we’ve decided to leave it to the experts who DO this for a living. This lets us focus on the FUN part of this gig – picking themes, writing missions, and generally gathering folks together to throw dice over beers and food in a friendly environment. If you are the type to follow the LVO/BAO rules, assume that changes they make in their format will be reflected here. We will attempt to keep up with them and reflect the changes here.

So cruise on over to the Roolz page and check out what you can and can’t do for this years tournament. To be honest, there isn’t a lot of difference from last year besides HOW you choose your lists
