Rules 2016

Feb-26-2016

wheel-glyphThese rules reflect the current state of ITC for 2016. Front Line Gaming is in the process of updating their rules and we will implement them as long as they are published 30 days before Waaagh!Fest 2016. If these rules are updated, we will make announcement here, on our front page, and across social media.

The Warhammer 40k 7th Edition Rules will be used.

A total of three games will be played – two and one half hours per game.

Each player is responsible for bringing three objective markers.

Choosing Your Armies

  • 2000 pts
  • Battle Forged armies, only. No Unbound lists.
  • An army may be built using up to three Detachments.
  • An army may duplicate a single Detachment, one time.
    • Example: A list may include 2 CADs, but not 3 CADs. Or, a single CAD, and 2 Allied Detachments. Or, 3 Formations, 2 of which are the same Formation, etc.
    • Note: This includes “Decurion Style” Detachments which are comprised of multiple datasheets and Formations. They may only take a single duplicate Formation, one time within the “Decurion Style” Detachment, although they make take duplicate Data Slate units within the Detachment if permitted to do so. Example: Necrons may take the Decurion with 2 Canoptek Harvest formations within it, but no other duplicate formations.
    • Note: “Decurion Style” Detachments comprised of multiple sub-detachments count as 1 detachment towards the 3 detachment limit.
  • A Detachment may not be included in an army if it is Come the Apocalypse allies with another Detachment in the army.
  • All current source material is allowed, including GW Codexes, Data Slates, Formations, current and experimental Forge World units. The Forge World army lists below are allowed. Please note, Horus Heresy/30K Forge World units are not allowed.

      • Exception: The Dark Harvest army list is not allowed, although 40k approved units in it that can be purchased outside of the Dark Harvest detachment, are allowed.
    • Army lists in Imperial Armor 4, 2nd Ed: Detachment D-99 and the Red Scorpions Chapter Tactics and Characters. Note: The Inquisitorial Experimental Detachment Warlord Trait bonus and penalties may be selected at the beginning of each game.

  • Regardless of Detachments, no more than 1 Fortification and/or 1 Super Heavy/Gargantuan Lord of War may be taken from the allowed LoW list, below.
    • Exception: One detachment in your army may include an Imperial Knight. So long as the detachment restrictions allow for multiple LoW, you may exceed the 0-1 LoW restriction within this detachment so long as all other LoW are also Imperial Knights.
    • Exception: One detachment in your army may include a unit of Tau Stormsurge. This unit may contain more than one Stormsurge model.
    • Note: A Fortification does not count as a model in your army for the purposes of gaining detachment special rules unless that detachment specifically mentions Fortifications as benefiting form them.
  • Selection Criteria: We use the following guidelines to determine which Super Heavy/Gargantuan Creature LoW are allowed into the ITC format. A LoW choice is allowed so long as it does not violate any of the following:
    • It has a larger than 5″ blast D Weapon.
    • It has a Hellstorm Template weapon with Torrent.
    • It has a larger than 5″ blast weapon that ignores cover.
    • Is a Super Heavy Flyer or Flying Gargantuan Creature.
    • It has a “Titan” stat line. We mean by this LoW that have a stat line similar to or better than any of the Titan class Super Heavy Vehicles (Warhound, Revenant, etc.), Titan class Gargantuan Creatures (Hierophant), or Daemon Lords.
    • Exception: If a LoW has easy access to means to violate the above criteria such as through Psychic Powers, or wargear such as Marker Lights paired with a LoW with a larger than 5″ blast weapon, etc. In the case that we can simply disallow the wargear item we do that instead such as with the Battle of Keylak Legacy of Glory on Imperial LoW.
    • Exception: We allow units that violate one or more of the above guidelines in if they prove to not be overwhelming in power. To date, this has only been done to allow in some Super Heavy Flyers.
  • If one player has a Super Heavy/Gargantuan LoW and the other does not, the player without can roll on the Escalation Warlord Table and gains +1 to Seize the Initiative.

Warhammer 40K Rules Clarifications

FORGEWORLD Models/Units

Forgeworld units/models are approved for use at Waaagh!Fest 2016. If it’s on this list, it’s good to go! This is most non-superheavy/gargantuan creatures from Forgeworld and includes information on which version/update/book to use for these models. This does not effect the use of Lords of War as noted below. This also includes Imperial Armour: Aeronautica. You must have a copy of the book/rules for anything FW that’s used and let your opponent know at the beginning of the game.

Forgeworld Approved Models, Formations, and Book Sources

FORGEWORLD Armylists

If you want to bring a Forgeworld armylist army, you may do so. All models that make up this list must either be standard codex models (codices listed above) or be included in the listing for Forgeworld models as noted above.

Fortifications at Waaagh!Fest

Fortifications from codeci and Strongpoint Assault are allowed at Waaagh!Fest 2016 with the exceptions noted above. Because of the problems this may cause with the setup of terrain, which is predetermined by the staff before the event in an attempt to create some sort of balance (hehe) for all players and armies, we have decided to approach fortifications in this manner.

During deployment, if either or both sides have fortifications of any kind, they will use this extra step in placing their models.

Roll to see who starts deployment first as normal.
The person who goes first places their Fortification first using these rules

  1. You may REMOVE ONE piece of terrain in YOUR deployment zone to make room for your Fortification if necessary. At least 50% of the terrain piece to be removed must be inside your deployment zone.
  2. If you remove a piece of terrain, your Fortification MUST occupy at least 50% of the area the original terrain piece occupied.
  3. The player who goes second now places their Fortification using the above same rules.
  4. Players now continue deploying their armies as per the standard rules.
  5. After the game is finished, terrain piece must be placed back in it’s original spot on the table.

There are a few items in the Strongpoint Assult book that have no model or size reference, in those cases, use this as a guideline:

Promethium Pipeline (or anything that has short/long sections): treat as similar sizes to Aegis Defense Line.
Void Shield Generator: Similar base size to Imperial Bastion – 5.5″ to 6″ square

The rest of da roolz.

What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). If you wish to use an item, it must be represented on the figure.

You must provide access to your own rules (which include the actual Codex used for your army), dice, templates, pen/pencil, calculator, or anything else you will need during the course of regular play.

In order to keep the tournament running on schedule, when time is called for a round, all player’s must drop the dice and stop playing – no exceptions. Your being extremely close to winning is NOT justification for playing past the allotted time. Because of this, please be aware of the time left in the round and do not start a turn that EACH player cannot finish. If you were not clear on this DO NOT START A GAME TURN THAT EACH PLAYER CANNOT FINISH. “But I will win if we do another turn really fast” is NOT sufficient ground to start another turn. If you are that worried about it you are playing in the wrong tournament.

Bring at LEAST 5 Copies of your Army List (1 for the judge, if needed, 3 for your opponents, 1 for yourself). YOU ARE REQUIRED TO GIVE EACH OF YOUR OPPONENTS A COPY OF YOUR LIST BEFORE THE GAME BEGINS WHETHER THEY WANT ONE OR NOT. DO NOT claim you forgot your list and hand write one out for your opponents. People who do this at the time of a game almost always fail to add up their points correctly. The preferred list format is Army Builder. After that a spread sheet with all costs set forth on the sheet. Finally, if you do it by hand xerox/photocopy your list before hand and have the costs of EVERYTHING on your sheets.

Players are required to turn their rosters in to the organizers in advance of the tournament in an electronic format. Rosters must be submitted no later than June 5th. We need time to review and make sure things are ok before the tournament. Email your lists here (sukigod@bigshoota.com)

Give your opponent a copy of your list before the game starts. This is NOT optional. This tournament is full and open disclosure. If your opponent does not do this you are REQUIRED to note it on your sportsmanship score sheet. We will be looking for patterns.

Play your games, get done, go eat food and have a drink.

Tip your bartender and the bar wait staff. Do not be a cheap skate. These people are getting paid primarily on tips and we want them to have a good time as well. We also want them to welcome us back next year!

If you see someone that needs help carrying something, help them out without being asked.

Offer to buy your opponent a beer. It may not ‘technically’ be mandatory but it will help your karma.

If you cheat or have a crappy attitude you will be kicked out.

Scoring

Battle: There are 20 battle points which can be won for each game. Each of the three games will have different ways to garner battle points. Some standard fare such as kill points and targeting specific units will be present in some scenarios – others may not be so standard. Who knows?

Painting: Each player will be awarded up to 20 points towards their final score for paint. A completely unpainted army (which you are welcome to bring if you choose) will be awarded a zero while the army that Michelangelo and DaVinci got together to convert and paint would be worth 20.

Sportsmanship: Be honest but don’t be “that guy/girl”.

Prizes:
Ok, yes, it’s a bar tournament focused on the thrill of playing with toys, in a bar, but we still have to have prizes or no one would really come to play! That being said, there will be trophies and prizes. Best General (Overall), Best Sport (top Sportsmanship score – general consensus amongst staff in case of tie) and Best Paint will receive “trophies” befitting the event. There will be other fun door prizes as well depending on the volume of entrants. These will usually be somewhat themed and at the whim and creativity of the Waaagh!Fest staff.
