Hello fellow 40K-ers! As we get closer to the big day we're all getting more and more excited about having a blast at McCann's and playing 40K. We're also busy as ammo grots getting all the prep work done. We've gotten the missions hammered out and are finishing up playtesting them. We've got some doozies in here, some nice twists the boyz down in Alabama showed us and I think they'll go over well here too.
Time was spent this weekend on cranking out enough terrain to make for exciting games on 16 boards. 30+ tree/area terrain bases are finished and we're currently adding another two giant shees of foam for hills to add along with 40+ more trees. Many of you are also chipping your own terrain to help make sure the boards don't look sparse. Thanks to all of you who are adding to the event.
I do need to take this time as well to remind everyone who's interested in official Granite City Waaagh!Fest apparel. T-shirt orders must be placed by this Friday, May 27th. I'll be dropping off the orders this weekend so if you want want, make sure you head over to the T-Shirt Order page or email me if you have any questions or special considerations.
I can't tell ya how jazzed up we're getting. it verges on the edge of lunacy. Suffice to say, we think this is going to be something people will have a great time with, tell their friends and have to add tables for next years bash. Keep watching here for more news and updates as we get closer!
The Granite City Waaagh!Fest Staff
With only five weeks left until the big bash, we're all trying to balance getting everything done with finally getting outside for some sun and yardwork.
The Granite City Waaagh!Fest staff were inspired by everything we saw down in Hunstville, even if it wasn't what was originally planned. (click over too here for the pics…). It made us realize we've got some really big-hearted and friendly shoes to fill. It also reminded us we've got lots of work to do!
A number of us have started working on adding to the terrain we already have so we can liberally cover 16 tables with fine, quality terrain. More trees have been added to the tree box at Bakers, I'll be picking up two more 4'x'8 sheets of foam and paint/flock for a butt load of hills, and most of us are putting together a bunch of buildings to help add a lot of interest to the tables along with great places to hide and get cover saves.
I've also emailed all the registered participants and let them know that Granite City Waaagh!Fest T-shirt orders are due by May 27th (only three weeks) and army lists must be received by June 4th. I'll be sending out reminders a couple days before each.
For those who haven't registered, head on over and secure your spot today. For everyone who has already done so, get outside and enjoy the weather – you can't tell how long this will last!
I have finished going over the rules for Waaagh!Fest and posted them online. You can check them out here…
We're currently working on the missions and having a blast with coming up with some crazy ideas. I think everyone will have a great time with them. Some of us are also getting prepared to make the trek down to Huntsville at the end of April to attend The Kalm itself. We'll try to take a lot of pictures, remember everything we can and hopefully learn a few things about running a bar tournament.
The FAQ page should also be up with a few questions by the end of the week.
Any questions, email me at sukigod@bigshoota.com.
Thanks!
Hello all! Registration has been open about two weeks and there's 10 people registered – nice going so far! I think we're well on our way to filling all 32 slots before the closing. There have been a few questions and I'll try to answer some of them here. The tournament is 2,000 points. Painting isn't mandetory but it will keep you from winning the top prize if it's unpainted. Because of the nature of the game and number of participants, all army lists will need to be emailed to us by June 4th so we can validate all armies in attendance before the contest. There will be three rounds and each round will be themed, or at least have a "fun" twist to it to make things interesting.
I'll be posting the full rules by the end of next week which will answer these and many more questions in depth. Any other questions, please contact us and let us know!
ALSO! Don't forget we have limted edition Waaagh!Fest! T-Shirts for order online (and only online!). These need to be ordered by May 21st to get them in time for the contest. Don't be caught without one!
Randy
Hey all! It's that time! Registration for the 1st Annual Waaagh!Fest has opened. There are 32 slots available, after which people will be put on a waiting list incase of dropouts/no shows. Click on the Registration tab above to lock in your slot now!
I've tried my darnedest to get the hotels to gimmie a deal and they're not budging. For some reason they thing June is a high traffic time here in the St. Cloud area. What for, I can't image. But, whatever. If you are coming in from out of town and want to stay the night in a hotel, I've done some research and made some suggestions for where and how much – click on the Hotels tab for more information.
T-Shirts!
Yes, we have an official t-shirt. Because we don't have "money in the bank" right now, we're taking pre-orders for shirts and those who order in time will have them delivered at the tournament. Cost per shirt is $20 and must be ordered by May 21st to get them in time for the event. Check out the Waaagh!Fest T-Shirt page for more information.
I suppose now that New Years is all over with I should start getting a few things done 'round here about this little tournament we've decided to throw!
The registration for the Granite City Waaagh!Fest should be open by this weekend. I've gotten most of the bugs worked out and just need do do a round of final testing and I'll let the floodgates open. The limit will be 32 people but I'll open a waiting list registration if all 32 slots fill up.
The t-shirt design has been finalized and you will be able to order one through our website (part of the registration) and I'll have them waiting for you at the event. I will only be ordering shirts for those who say in advance they will buy a shirt when they register – this is important! There will not be extras on hand at the tournament so be sure to speak up early. There will be a cut off date so I have enough time to make sure they're done and delivered before the show. I'll post here (in BIG GIANT LETTERS) when that will be so it doesn't surprise anyone.
I've also been busy with getting the "trophies" taken care of. I think they're gonna be a big hit and super fun – I can't wait! I'll post a pic when they're done so everyone can see what's at stake.
Keep your eyes peeled for more info coming soon.
The Waaagh!Fest Staff
Little bit of a name change but the same idea. Wargaming, beer, bars and fun. The date has been set for June 18th, 2011 @ McCann’s Food & Brew in St.Cloud, MN (the old O’Hara’s on 33rd and 3rd). It looks like we’ll be able to open up the number of players from 20 to 30 because of the amount of space available.
I’ll be adding content and working on some other deals in an attempt to make this event even more fun that it looks on paper. Banners, trophies and possibly t-shirts. We’re even trying to schedule some fun extra activities and prizes too for after the tournament in an attempt to keep people hangin’ around the bar. I’m so excited about this event right now I’m losing sleep over it.

This is the future home to the Waaagh!Fest! 40K Pub Tournament in central Minnesota. After pinging the locals and a few from out of town, it seems as though there is enough interest in attending a fun, friendly 40K game day in a bar – imagine that?
AsĀ I get things locked down I’ll post the details here.
A big thanks to the folks down in Huntsville, Alabama for hosting the Klam Before the Waaagh!, which is the inspiration for this event. Without them, this event would probably never happen.
